Brock Boeser
ON-ICE VALUE
Top-Six Forward
STRENGTHS
Shot: Boeser possesses a complete shooting arsenal. He can beat goaltenders in stride, with catch-and-release lasers and vicious one-timers. Better yet, he doesn’t insist on aiming top corner every time. He takes what’s there and converts at a stellar rate. Simply a natural sniper.
Passing: He’s an underrated playmaker as well. It may not be the core of his game, but he spots open teammates and displays soft touch on his setups. While he’s particularly good from the goal line on the power play, he makes the right play more often than not.
Hockey Sense: One of the most important traits for a trigger man is the ability to put themselves in scoring position. Boeser has that knack, sliding up to offer a high-slot shooting threat or driving forward in search of tap-ins and second-chance looks. He makes himself available on a consistent basis.
WEAKNESSES
Skating: He isn’t exactly a physical specimen, and his lack of pace stands out in transition. He struggles to pull away from defenders and is forced to rely on guile in order to get open. A touch more speed would generate considerably more chances for him.
Durability: Boeser has already missed significant time due to injuries in his career. Whether it’s bad luck or a conditioning issue, he just isn’t available for his team frequently enough. Thankfully, he appears to have fully recovered from a wrist issue that hampered his goal scoring in 2019-20.
