Jordan Greenway
ON-ICE VALUE
Middle-Six Forward
STRENGTHS
Size: There’s no getting around the fact that Greenway is a rare physical specimen. At 6’6” and 241 pounds, he can dominate puck battles and manhandle opponents in the trenches. He also skates reasonably well for a man his size. If he sets his mind to crashing the net or winning a puck back, it’s awfully hard to stop him.
Puck Management: He isn’t merely a brute, though. Greenway makes simple and smart decisions with the puck, quickly spotting his outlets and putting his team in advantageous situations. There’s a reason he’s quietly racked up a lot of primary assists lately. He has good hockey sense.
Reliable: While he shouldn’t be classified as a shutdown forward, he can handle tough defensive assignments. His reach and size are a nightmare to deal with, and his puck protection skills limit the time his club spends in its own zone. He’s a freak of nature who can play in most situations.
WEAKNESSES
Finish: Beyond the occasional tap-in, Greenway is a poor finisher. His release is fairly slow and his shot isn’t particularly accurate. However, if he learns how to impose his will as a net-front monster, he can increase his production and benefit his team. With those physical tools, he has 20-goal potential.
Passive: The previous point hints at the issue—Greenway rarely looks to grab the reins. He’s happy doing his job and contributing to the outcome rather driving it. He’s still a useful player, but he could be a top-six staple with the right mindset and coaching.
