Joel Farabee
ON-ICE VALUE
Top-Six Forward
STRENGTHS
Shot: Farabee is a natural shooter. He can pick corners from virtually anywhere in the offensive zone and possesses a quick release. His one-timer is particularly effective, as he doesn’t require much space or the perfect pass to fire an accurate shot. He complements this marksmanship with a keen ability to get open.
Nose for the Net: He converts at a solid clip because he doesn’t merely settle for shots from distance. Despite a modest frame, he will drive the net in search of deflections, tap-ins and second-chance looks. His willingness to attack from different areas of the ice makes him a difficult cover.
Poise: Even as a young player, Farabee displays patience in possession. He doesn’t rush his decisions and shows a good feel for how to set up the best possible shot. This adds to his unpredictability. He can unleash one-time lasers or hold on for an extra second so that a better chance can materialize.
WEAKNESSES
Defense: Farabee only competes in the defensive zone when he feels like it. Too often, he drifts out of position and loses inside leverage on his assignment. This allows the opposition to create several waves of attack and put his team on its heels. Of course, he still has time to clean up these bad habits.
Size: At 6’0” and just 164 pounds, Farabee simply doesn’t have an NHL body yet. This is plain to see along the boards in all three zones, where he’s frequently smothered and squeezed off the puck. With 10-15 pounds of additional mass, he’d fare much better in the trenches.
