NHL Transactions Still Trickling In

Most of the big fish were reeled in when NHL free agency kicked off on July 1^st and there were several big trades just before and after the madness began. However, there have been several lower-key transactions since then and we’ll update them now just in case you’ve missed anything.

There are still some unrestricted free agents who are still testing the waters such as Toronto Maple Leafs’ defenseman Jake Gardiner and numerous big-name restricted free agents haven’t agreed to new contracts yet. On top of that, several players have taken their clubs to salary arbitration and we’ll take a look at who decided to take that route.

Let’s go over the latest transactions to start with.

Anaheim Ducks

Signed defenseman Jani Hakanpaa for a year at $850,000.

Arizona Coyotes

Defenseman Victor Soderstrom was signed to a three-year, entry-level contract and winger Michael Bunting to a two-way contract for two years.

Boston Bruins
The Bruins came to terms with forward Danton Heinen on a new $2.8 million deal for two seasons.

Buffalo Sabres
Unrestricted free agent forward Marcus Johansson was signed from the Boston Bruins for two years for $9 million and center       Zemgus Girgensons was inked for a year at $1.6 million. The Sabres shipped forward Alexander Nylander to Chicago for defenseman Henri Jokiharju.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Hurricanes matched the offer sheet given to 21-year old forward Sebastian Aho by the Montreal Canadiens and re-signed the restricted free agent for five years at $42.27 million. Winger Brian Gibbons inked a one-year, two-way deal for $725,000.

Chicago Blackhawks
The Blackhawks acquired forward Alexander Nylander from the Buffalo Sabres for defenseman Henri Jokiharju. They also signed this year’s first-round draft choice center Kirby Dach to an three-year entry level contract.

Colorado Avalanche

The Avalanche gave head coach Jared Bednar a two-year extension on his contract and re-inked blue liner Ryan Graves for another year.

Columbus Blue Jackets
Forward Justin Scott was re-signed tow a two-way deal for one season and defenseman Scott was given a $4.9 million, three-year contract extension.

Dallas Stars
The Texas club re-signed forward Jason Dickinson for another two years at a total of $3 million contract. They also Re-inked defenders Dillon Heatherington and Gavin Bayreuther to two-way deals for another season.

Edmonton Oilers
Defender Philip Broberg was given a three-year, entry-level deal.

Florida Panthers
The Panthers inked blue liner Jake Massi for two years with an entry-level contract along with forward Kevin Roy for a season on a two-way deal. Goaltender Philippe Desrosiers and winger Joel Lowry were signed to one-year, two-way contracts.

Los Angeles Kings
The rebuilding Kings inked winger Samuel Fagemo for three years on an entry-level contract and re-signed forward Alex Iafallo for two seasons for $4.85 million.

Montreal Canadiens
The Habs re-signed forwards Joel Armia for two years at $5.2 million and Artturi Lehkonen for $4.8 million. They also signed center Nick Cousins for a year at $1 million and blue liner Ben Chiarot for three years at $10.5 million. Center Phil Varone was inked to a one-year, two-way deal for $700,000.

New Jersey Devils
Forward Jack Hughes, the number-one overall draft pick pick this summer, was signed to a three-year, entry level deal.

New York Rangers
The Broadway Blueshirts wasted no time in signing this year’s second overall draft pick          Kaapo Kakko as the young forward signed a three-year, entry-level deal.

Ottawa Senators
Re-signed defenseman Christian Wolanin for two seasons for $1.6 million.

Philadelphia Flyers
Some fans will love this and others will hate it, but the Flyers’ Paul Holmgren has given up his job as team president and will remain with the club as a senior advisor.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Veteran forward Matt Cullen, who made his NHL debut in 1997, announced his retirement. The 42-year-old was drafted 35^th overall by Anaheim in 1996 and played 1,516 career regular-season games. Cullen scored 266 goals and 465 assists for 731 points with Anaheim, Florida, Carolina, the New York Rangers, Ottawa, Minnesota, Nashville and the Penguins. He notched seven goals and 13 assists in 71 contests last season. He also scored 19 goals and 58 points in 132 playoff games and won thee Stanley Cups; one with Carolina in 2005/06 and two with Pittsburgh in 2015/16 and 2016/17. Also, head coach Mike Sullivan had his contract extended by four years and  center Joseph Blandisi was re-inked for a year on a two-way contract for $700,000.

San Jose Sharks
The Sharks re-inked blue liner Nick DeSimone and center Dylan Gambrell for another two seasons for $1.4 million. They also re-signed forwards Maxim Letunov and Antti Suomela for a year at $700,000 and rearguard Kyle Wood was given the same deal. They also got a good deal on winger Kevin Labanc by re-signing him for another season at $1 million.

St. Louis Blues
Winger Zach Sanford was re-signed for $3 million over two years. Also, defenseman Chris Butler has officially retired. Butler was drafted 96^th overall by Buffalo in 2005. The 32-year-old played 407 regular-season contests with 14 goals and 86 points for Buffalo, Calgary and St. Louis. He added one assists in seven playoff games with the Sabres.

Tampa Bay Lightning
Centers Cedric Paquette and Carter Verhaeghe were re-signed for two-years at $3.3 million and to a one-year, two-way contract respectively.

Toronto Maple Leafs
Signed restricted free agent center Alexander Kerfoot for four years for $14 million and restricted free agent Cody Ceci to a year at $4.5 million. They also announced Dave Hakstol as assistant coach.

Vancouver Canucks
The Canucks signed unrestricted free agent Micheal Ferland from the Carolina Hurricanes to a four-year deal worth $14 million. They also re-signed forwards Reid Boucher and Francis Perron to one-year, two-way deals and defenders Brogan Rafferty and Josh Teves for another two seasons on two-way contracts. Also, winger Josh Leivo was re-inked for a year at $1.5 million.

Vegas Golden Knights
Goaltender Malcolm Subban was re-signed for another year for $850,000.

Washington Capitals

Young forwards Brett Leason and Aliaksei Protas signed the standard three-year, entry-level contracts.

Arbitration Hearings

As far as arbitration goes, several of the 40 players have signed with their clubs after filing. However, there are still some big names who are scheduled for hearings between July 20^th and Aug. 4^th.  They also have the option of signing anytime before the arbitrator rules.
